Advocacy & Policy

At Black Blossom Alliance, we fight for structural reform that puts Black women and birthing people at the center of maternity care transformation. Through policy advocacy, strategic consultation, and government engagement, we work to embed equity into the foundation of the healthcare system — from the national stage to community-level action.

  • Policy Consultations – We contribute directly to NHS England, Department of Health, and other health bodies by providing evidence-based feedback, recommendations, and insights that reflect the needs of Black mothers.
  • Legislative Briefings – We work closely with Members of Parliament, policymakers, and strategic health stakeholders to deliver impactful briefings that combine research data with lived experience narratives.
  • Local Authority Engagement – Partnering with councils and NHS Trusts, we help assess and redesign maternity services to better serve Black communities through equity audits and public consultations.
  • Equity Frameworks – We co-create tools, checklists, and practical frameworks to support organizations in embedding anti-racist, culturally safe practices into their service models.

Why Our Advocacy Matters

Black women in the UK remain four times more likely to die during pregnancy or childbirth. These are not just unfortunate outcomes — they are consequences of deeply embedded systemic inequalities. Our advocacy makes those structures visible, challenges their legitimacy, and equips communities to push back. Whether submitting parliamentary evidence, shaping NHS audits, or training local advocates, our work ensures Black maternal health stays at the center of the national agenda.
